Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Event Estimator with strong technical knowledge of joinery, carpentry, metal work, lighting elements, and shipping/logistics.
The Estimator will be responsible for analyzing event concepts, technical drawings, and client RFPs to produce accurate cost estimates and bills of quantities.
This role is critical to ensuring project feasibility, competitive pricing, and profitability from concept through delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation & BOQ Preparation: Review event briefs, design decks, and technical drawings to prepare detailed cost breakdowns and BOQs covering joinery, carpentry, metal structures, lighting, AV integration, fabrics, carpet and finishing works.
- Technical Review: Assess feasibility of designs from a fabrication perspective and flag value-engineering opportunities without compromising creative intent.
- Vendor & Supplier Coordination: Obtain and negotiate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers for materials, labor, freight, and specialty items. Maintain an updated supplier rate database.
- Shipping & Logistics Costing: Calculate packing, crating, freight, customs, and on-site handling costs for local and international events.
- Lighting & Technical Elements: Work with production teams to quantify power requirements, lighting fixtures, cabling, and control systems for accurate pricing.
- Tender & Proposal Support: Collaborate with Sales and Project teams to prepare commercial proposals, clarifications, and tender submissions within deadlines.
- Budget Handover: Present approved estimates to Project Managers with clear breakdowns, assumptions, exclusions, and risk factors for smooth project handover.
- Cost Tracking: Support post-event cost analysis to compare estimated vs actual costs and improve future estimation accuracy.
Requirements
- Experience: 3-5+ years as an Estimator in events, exhibitions, or fit-out industry.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of joinery and carpentry methods, metal fabrication, stage/lighting elements, scenic finishes, and graphics production.
- Shipping/Logistics: Experience estimating crating, international freight, customs clearance, and on-site installation logistics.
- Software Skills: Proficient in Excel, AutoCAD/reading technical drawings, and estimation tools.
Experience
- with ERP or project budgeting software is a plus.
- Skills: High attention to detail, strong numerical skills, ability to work under tight deadlines, and excellent negotiation/communication skills.
- Education: Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Carpentry/Joinery, or relevant technical field experience.
