Leads continued development and delivery of ContentIQ while remaining involved in architecture, product decisions, problem-solving, and execution.
Works with the VP of Engineering and leadership to set technical direction, engineering priorities, support deployments, and scale platform performance, reliability, security, and capabilities.
The role combines engineering leadership with hands-on technical execution and customer issue management.
Responsibilities
- Lead the team developing, delivering, and operating ContentIQ; set architecture, priorities, and roadmap with the VP of Engineering.
- Translate business and customer needs into plans and deliverables; own sprint planning, prioritization, execution, and timelines.
- Mentor engineers and review architecture, code, pull requests, and technical designs.
- Improve RAG, search, document intelligence, ingestion, retrieval, and AI agent capabilities.
- Improve scalability, latency, reliability, security, and observability; support IBM watsonx integrations.
- Establish testing, deployment, monitoring, documentation, and production-readiness practices.
- Troubleshoot production and customer issues and support enterprise technical discovery, architecture, implementation, and deployments.
- Own features and initiatives from concept through production deployment.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- At least five years of professional software engineering experience; the posting also separately lists three years of engineering experience.
- Prior experience leading engineers, technical projects, or engineering teams, with a strong hands-on software engineering background.
- Strong experience with Python, React, and ML/AI; experience designing APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and cloud applications.
- Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases; understanding of modern AI/LLM architecture and scalable production-grade systems.
- Knowledge of testing, CI/CD, code review, monitoring, and production operations.
- Clear communication with engineers, executives, customers, and non-technical stakeholders; ability to work in a fast-moving startup.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with RAG, enterprise search, knowledge management, document intelligence, or data intelligence platforms.
- Experience with LLMs, embeddings, reranking, vector databases, semantic search, distributed caching, agentic AI, or workflow orchestration.
- Experience with IBM watsonx, watsonx Orchestrate, OpenAI, Groq, or comparable AI platforms; enterprise customer or startup experience is preferred.
Workplace and eligibility
- Hybrid schedule with three to four days per week in the office; work location is in person at the Greater Toronto Area headquarters.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Ontario, Canada.
Compensation and benefits
- Base salary is $120,000 CAD per year, with a performance-based bonus opportunity.
