About the role

Provide technical leadership, operational support, and strategic direction across a diverse property portfolio.

Ensure engineering services are safe, compliant, and efficient while improving asset performance, sustainability, and operational excellence.

Work with site-based engineering teams, clients, specialist contractors, and stakeholders across mechanical and electrical disciplines.

Technical leadership

  • Ensure contractual obligations, service standards, and KPIs are achieved across engineering operations.
  • Support CAFM data management, asset verification, and lifecycle planning.
  • Oversee high- and low-voltage electrical activities and support building performance, energy optimisation, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Review proposed engineering works and maintain engineering standards, operating procedures, and technical governance.
  • Provide operational technical support and escalation, including out-of-hours support when required.
  • Lead incident investigations, technical audits, and compliance inspections across sites.
  • Maintain emergency operating procedures, standard operating procedures, and critical-environment documentation.
  • Promote permit-to-work, LOTO, and critical-works management.
  • Support infrastructure resilience, testing, commissioning, and integrated systems testing.
  • Produce technical reports, recommendations, and risk assessments; review plant performance for improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with British Standards, statutory regulations, and industry best practice.

Operational and management responsibilities

  • Build client and stakeholder relationships and own escalation of operational, technical, and compliance issues.
  • Monitor CAFM systems, electronic logbooks, and performance metrics; manage SLAs, compliance standards, and engineering targets.
  • Oversee specialist subcontractors and supply-chain partners for quality, compliance, and performance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams; support recruitment, succession planning, performance management, and talent development.
  • Drive training and competency programmes and apply risk management and contractor governance across the portfolio.
  • Attend client and operational reviews, communicate risks and opportunities to senior leaders, and promote safety and continuous improvement.

Skills and experience

  • Proven experience in a senior engineering or technical management role in hard services, facilities management, building services, or critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical building systems.
  • Experience managing engineering teams, contractors, and technical service delivery.
  • In-depth knowledge of statutory compliance, engineering governance, and operational risk management.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, report-writing, technical presentation, stakeholder, and organisational skills.
