Team and product context

Lyft’s Marketplace organization focuses on business growth and financial metrics, with pricing central to the work.

The Dynamic Pricing & Offer Selection team uses real-time and historical data to price rides and select rider options, balancing price and ETA.

The systems are high-traffic and business-critical; engineers and data scientists work across the US and Canada to productionize machine-learning and optimization models.

Role overview

Lead a group of 6–8 engineers and own the reliability and evolution of dynamic pricing systems at Lyft scale.

Partner with technical and product leadership on the roadmap; this is a hands-on leadership role focused on technical tradeoffs, operational excellence, and business outcomes.

Execution and planning

  • Drive engineering execution from roadmap planning through delivery, adapting to changing priorities and business conditions.
  • Define engineering vision and short- and mid-term plans with Science and Product, balancing technology, product, and business needs.
  • Facilitate cross-functional decisions, resolve partner-team blockers, and align stakeholders on standards, collaboration, risks, and dependencies.

Technical leadership

  • Own architectural decisions and understand the team’s technology stack deeply.
  • Partner with technical leads and scientists to productionize models with experimentation, shadowing, rollout, and monitoring practices.
  • Set success metrics, SLAs, and reliability standards; own on-call health and serve as an incident escalation point.
  • Manage technical debt and maintain reliable, efficient, and cost-effective systems.

People leadership

  • Hire, develop, and retain a diverse engineering team and foster collaboration between engineering and science.
  • Set expectations, give timely feedback, evaluate performance fairly, and support career development.
  • Match engineers to stretch opportunities and develop future technical leaders.
  • Refine team processes, tooling, and operating rhythms; contribute through mentoring, interviewing, and knowledge sharing.

Experience and qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years of software development experience and technical depth in architecture and design.
  • At least 3 years of people-management experience, with a record of growing engineers and building cohesive teams.
  • Track record delivering projects end to end while balancing speed, quality, and sustainability.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, Science, and Analytics; ability to operate in ambiguity and bring structure to complex problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including representing the team to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience managing backend, web, mobile, and/or data engineering roles is a plus.
  • Experience working on a growth-focused team or organization, such as incentives, messaging, or ads, is a plus.

Benefits

  • Benefits listed include extended health and dental coverage, life insurance, disability benefits, mental health benefits, family-building benefits, child care and pet benefits, and a company-funded Health Care Savings Account.
  • The description also mentions an RRSP plan with company match and flexible paid time off for salaried team members; the source text ends mid-sentence.
