Engineering Manager

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a talented, multidisciplinary engineering team within a fast-paced, product-led technology environment.

You will work closely with Product, Design and Data teams to identify customer needs, shape technical strategy and deliver scalable software solutions that create meaningful business impact.

• Lead, inspire and develop a high-performing team of software engineers, creating an environment that encourages ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Work closely with Product, Design and Data stakeholders to understand customer needs, business challenges and opportunities, translating these into clear technical strategies and outcomes.
• Empower engineers to take ownership of the full software development lifecycle, from discovery and solution design through to implementation, deployment and ongoing optimisation.
• Drive the delivery of complex software solutions, ensuring work is delivered incrementally and consistently creates value for customers.
• Balance product discovery with execution, helping teams prioritise effectively and focus on the opportunities that deliver the greatest impact.
• Provide technical guidance across architecture, system design and engineering practices, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, secure and performant.
• Coach, mentor and develop engineering talent, supporting career progression, engagement and long-term retention.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, knowledge sharing and continuous feedback.
• Manage stakeholder expectations, dependencies and communication across multiple teams and business functions.
• Champion engineering standards and practices that improve software quality, delivery efficiency and operational excellence.

We are looking for someone who brings a combination of technical expertise, engineering leadership and strong people management capabilities.

• 6+ years of experience in software engineering.
• At least 2 years of experience in a hands-on technical leadership and people management role.
• Proven experience building and leading cross-functional, autonomous engineering teams.
• Strong mentoring and coaching capabilities, with a genuine interest in developing engineering talent.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders.

• Strong experience with distributed systems architecture, including microservices, event-driven architecture and RESTful APIs.
• Experience designing, building, maintaining and scaling web applications and APIs.
• Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure and platforms, ideally AWS.
• Experience with Continuous Delivery and Trunk-Based Development.
• Strong understanding of automated testing, particularly end-to-end testing and quality assurance.
• Experience with modern software engineering practices, ideally within an Extreme Programming (XP) environment, including:

• Pair Programming
• Continuous Refactoring
• Simple Design
• Strong understanding of system performance, scalability, availability, monitoring, alerting and security.
• Good understanding of mobile development lifecycles, architectures and emerging technologies.

• Strong product mindset, with the ability to identify and prioritise opportunities that deliver meaningful customer and business value.
• Experience balancing continuous product discovery with software delivery.
• Good understanding of Agile and Lean principles and their practical application.
• Ability to guide teams through planning, execution and continuous improvement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop clear narratives and communicate complex ideas effectively.
