Job scope
The SOC Analyst detects security incidents and translates their impact for the wider business.
The role monitors security controls, reviews incident tickets, and uses threat intelligence to identify affected systems and scope attacks.
Main duties
- Gather, analyze, and communicate threat intelligence through the intelligence lifecycle.
- Analyze files and related components using technical tools; investigate incidents escalated from the L1 team.
- Assess behavior and implications in computer and network environments.
- Respond to customer concerns within given timelines and direct remediation and recovery efforts.
- Review vulnerability scans and assessment reports.
- Manage, configure, and improve SIEM and other security-monitoring tools according to client needs.
- Maintain a professional image for the company and professional-services function.
Position requirements
- At least one security certification, such as CEH, OSCP, CISSP, or CCNP Security.
- CCNP or equivalent qualification; the description also specifies a non-vendor security certification such as CISSP, CISM, ISO 27001, GCIA, GCIH, GCFA, or GCFE.
- Understand log formats such as LEEF and CIF and protocols such as syslog and FTP.
- Know security devices and logs, including IDS/IPS, HIDS/HIPS, anomaly detection, firewalls, and antivirus systems.
- Know network forensics, traffic protocols and analysis, network flows, and PCAP.
- Have working knowledge of SIEM tools such as RSA, ArcSight, Splunk, or QRadar.
Education and experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or another related field.
- At least two years of relevant experience.
