Role overview
Seeking a detail-oriented Embedded Systems Engineer or Firmware Engineer to develop embedded systems and firmware for next-generation products.
The role covers embedded software, microcontrollers, hardware interfaces, debugging, and system-level development.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain firmware for electronic and connected products.
- Develop firmware for microcontrollers, embedded processors, and hardware platforms using C, C++, or other relevant languages.
- Work with hardware engineers on system architecture and firmware requirements; develop drivers and components for sensors, peripherals, interfaces, and modules.
- Integrate firmware with processors, sensors, actuators, displays, and other components; implement UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, Ethernet, or similar protocols.
- Develop real-time applications using RTOS where required and configure low-level hardware and peripheral interfaces.
- Debug with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, debuggers, and similar tools; investigate defects and integration issues.
- Optimize performance, memory use, power consumption, boot time, reliability, and firmware architecture.
- Conduct unit, integration, system, and hardware-in-the-loop testing; create automated test procedures.
- Support prototypes, engineering validation, product qualification, production testing, releases, and deployment.
- Maintain source code and configuration; participate in code reviews, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Document architecture, interfaces, configurations, testing, and troubleshooting; work with manufacturing and quality teams.
- Evaluate embedded technologies and tools and improve development processes and engineering practices.
Requirements
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in embedded systems, firmware development, embedded software, or hardware-software integration.
- Strong C and/or C++ programming skills; understanding of microcontrollers, processors, memory architecture, interrupts, timers, and peripherals.
- Experience with embedded development environments, compilers, debuggers, hardware tools, and communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, or Ethernet.
- Familiarity with RTOS concepts and embedded system architecture and hardware-software interfaces.
- Experience debugging with JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or similar tools; understanding of electronics, circuits, sensors, actuators, and basic hardware troubleshooting.
- Experience with Git or other source control; familiarity with automated, unit, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities; attention to software quality and reliability.
- Ability to interpret schematics, datasheets, specifications, and hardware documentation; strong documentation and technical communication skills.
- Ability to work with hardware, software, QA, manufacturing, and product teams and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- ARM Cortex-M or other embedded processor architecture experience is advantageous.
- Embedded Linux, bootloaders, device drivers, or wireless technologies are advantageous; functional safety, cybersecurity, or industry-specific embedded standards are a plus.
What the employer offers
- Competitive salary and comprehensive employee benefits; no salary amount or pay cadence is specified.
- Work on advanced embedded products and connected technologies through the product development lifecycle.
- Professional training, technical learning, certification opportunities, and access to modern engineering tools.
- Collaborative engineering environment, technically challenging project ownership, and career development opportunities in embedded systems, firmware, IoT, robotics, automotive, and electronics.
