Job Summary
The E&M Generator Technician is responsible for the installation, commissioning, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel/gas generator sets and associated power systems used at telecom and industrial sites.
The role ensures reliable backup power availability to protect critical infrastructure and minimize downtime.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on diesel and gas generators of various makes, models, and capacities
· Conduct diagnostic testing, load bank testing, and generator start-up/commissioning procedures
· Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical faults on generator engines, alternators, control panels, and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
· Inspect and service cooling systems, fuel systems, lubrication systems, and exhaust systems
· Monitor generator performance parameters (voltage, frequency, oil pressure, coolant temperature) and take corrective action
· Maintain fuel inventory records and coordinate fuel replenishment for generator sites
· Test and maintain battery bank systems, UPS, and automatic transfer switch (ATS) functionality
· Ensure generators are compliant with environmental and emission regulations
· Maintain accurate maintenance logs, fault reports, and service history documentation
· Respond to emergency generator failures and provide 24/7 on-call support as required
Qualifications & Requirements
· Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering
· 3–6 years of hands-on experience in generator maintenance and repair (diesel/gas engines)
· Strong knowledge of generator systems: engines, alternators, AVR, control panels, and ATS
· Ability to read and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics and generator wiring diagrams
·
Experience
with load bank testing and performance verification
· Familiarity with OEM maintenance procedures for leading generator brands (Cummins, Caterpillar, Perkins, Kohler, etc.)
· Valid driving license; willingness to travel to remote/outdoor sites
Preferred Qualifications
· OEM-certified training from generator manufacturers (Cummins, CAT, Perkins, etc.)
·
Experience
in telecom tower power systems or critical power infrastructure
· Knowledge of fuel management systems and remote monitoring tools
· OSHA safety certification or equivalent HSE training
