Role Description

Technical Drawing Production & CAD Modelling

• 95% of drawings issued pass the internal quality check on first submission, with no more than one revision cycle attributable to draftsman error per quarter.
• All 3D plant models are updated within 3 working days of receiving confirmed design changes, with zero unresolved clash detections at the time of model issue.
• Drawing register is maintained and up to date at all times, with 100% of drawing numbers, revision statuses, and metadata accurately recorded in the document management system.

Drawing Quality, Checking & Document Control

• 100% of drawings submitted through the document management system include correct metadata, title block information, and revision history prior to issue.
• All review comments and Technical Queries (TQs) are responded to and closed within agreed timescales, with zero overdue TQ responses per project reporting cycle.
• Superseded drawing revisions are archived in line with configuration management procedures within 24 hours of a new revision being issued.

Multidisciplinary Integration & Stakeholder Coordination

• Zero spatial clashes or routing conflicts remain unresolved at the time of Integrated Design Review (IDR) submission.
• All action items arising from IDRs and multi-discipline model reviews are captured, assigned, and closed within the agreed project timeframe, with 100% traceability.
• Concept sketches, drawing lists, and preliminary layouts for tender or proposal submissions are delivered on time on 100% of occasions.

Compliance, SHEQ & Departmental Processes

• Timesheets are submitted accurately and on time in the ERP system on a daily basis, with 100% compliance against correct project and activity codes.
• Zero non-conformances related to drafting outputs attributed to failure to follow drawing office procedures per quarter.
• 100% of near-miss incidents, unsafe conditions, and quality non-conformances are reported in accordance with the SHEQ management system within the required reporting period.

Design Development & Project Phase Support

• Drafting deliverables across all project phases are issued in accordance with the agreed drawing schedule, with on-time delivery of 90% or above.
• Participation in lessons-learnt sessions results in at least one documented improvement to drafting workflows or deliverable quality per project close-out.
• All engineering change requests are implemented in drawings within the timeframe stipulated by the Engineering Change Management procedure, with zero unauthorized changes.

Qualification

• Higher Diploma / National Diploma / Diploma in Engineering Technology or Drafting
• Technical/Vocational Certificate (upper secondary vocational) in drafting/CAD/engineering drawing.
• Junior Draftsman: Minimum 1 year of drafting experience in the Power, Oil & Gas, or Industrial sector.
• Draftsman: Minimum 4 years of industry drafting experience.
• Senior Draftsman: Minimum 7 years of proven industry drafting experience.

Technical Knowledge

• Sound knowledge of engineering drafting principles, drawing standards, and conventions applicable to Oil, Gas, Power, or Industrial sectors.
• Practical understanding of plant layout and design — piping systems, structural elements, electrical/instrument installations, and process equipment.
• Working knowledge of 3D modelling environments such as PDMS/E3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, MicroStation, Revit, or equivalent platforms.
• Familiarity with applicable national and international standards (ISO, ASME, BS, SANS) relevant to the assigned discipline.
• Understanding of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, SHEQ reporting obligations, and Engineering Change Management processes.

Skills

• Proficient in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD 2D/3D and working knowledge of at least one integrated 3D plant design platform (PDMS, E3D, or AutoCAD Plant 3D).
• Ability to read, interpret, and produce engineering drawings across at least one discipline (Process, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Electrical, or C&I).
• Computer literate: MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), ERP time-recording (e.g. IFS), and ESS for HR administration.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to convey technical information to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong time management: able to plan, prioritize, and deliver multiple drawing deliverables within project schedules and budgets.
