Role purpose
Provides solution architecture and design assurance for major initiatives, aligning solutions with architecture standards, target architecture, and intended business outcomes.

Works across domains to ensure coherent end-to-end solutions. Platform Architects own platform reference architectures, engineering teams deliver builds, and Enterprise Architects own enterprise strategy and standards.
Key responsibilities
- Design major Digital and Tech initiatives to align with reference architectures, enterprise standards, and strategy.
- Build reliability, resilience, and observability into designs with consuming-service SLOs in mind.
- Design AI-enabled solutions where justified; review and assure other initiatives, explaining what changes would meet standards.
- Balance business outcome, cost, risk, and technical fit; coordinate across domains and surface architecture conflicts early.
- Assure supplier and managed-service designs; uphold governance and route exceptions through Enterprise Architecture.
- Ensure security and compliance, including GxP where relevant; engage early to reduce rework.
- Advise on architectural risk and technical debt, and maintain role boundaries with platform, enterprise architecture, and engineering teams.
Education and experience
- Technology or engineering degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- 18+ years in technology architecture or senior engineering, including at least three years producing major-initiative solution designs.
- Breadth across multiple technology domains and experience influencing business domain architects.
- Experience running architecture reviews, designing for reliability and security, and assuring supplier or systems-integrator designs.
- Practical awareness of AI patterns and hands-on design across SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS on Azure and/or GCP.
- Understanding of modern engineering workflows, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, and AI-assisted and agentic tooling.
Desirable qualifications and experience
- Cloud, network, or workplace architecture certifications are desirable.
- Desirable experience includes GxP validation, third-party systems integrators, FinOps, and AI-enabled patterns such as RAG or agentic workflows.
