Partner with the Head of Portfolio Decision Sciences, Respiratory, Immunology & Inflammation to support the portfolio throughout the R&D lifecycle, from preclinical research to late-stage clinical development.

Support the RI&I and broader pharmaceutical pipeline through project assessments and strategic and operational portfolio analysis.

Work with project teams and governance boards to evaluate investment opportunities under uncertainty and with limited data.

Responsibilities

  • Guide pipeline teams across the R&D lifecycle, including business development, through strategic decisions and economic analyses such as probability of success, ROI, and NPV.
  • Facilitate team decision-making and option evaluation, linking portfolio-level and project-level considerations for senior leaders and teams.
  • Provide objective project assessments for investment decisions at RI&I Research Unit boards, other Research Unit governance groups, and the Portfolio Investment Board.
  • Recommend options to investment body chairs based on rigorous analyses, value-risk assessment, clear delineation of risk discharge, and resource optimisation.
  • Support visible senior leadership decisions with objective analyses, portfolio context, and consistent approaches across decision-making bodies.

Candidate profile

  • The successful candidate is an experienced portfolio expert with extensive R&D experience.
  • Use data-driven analyses from internal and external perspectives to produce clear, objective, concise insights.
  • Systematically assess uncertainty and risk and conduct probabilistic evaluations to inform technical progression and investment decisions.
  • Conduct economic analyses of development options and highlight scenarios or sensitivities for discussion.
  • Bring strategic judgment, innovative thinking, and the ability to navigate the RI&I and wider R&D ecosystem.
  • Monitor external advances in data and technology that could improve portfolio management and decision-making.

Business context

GSK's pharmaceutical portfolio includes vaccines, specialty medicines, and general medicines.

GSK's strategy focuses on early intervention to prevent and alter the course of disease and support healthcare systems.
