Director and Head of Application Development and Engineering within Merck's Global Digital Workplace organization, reporting to the Head of Digital Workplace.
Leads software engineering, digital solution development, and service ownership across low-code, enterprise, and custom software development.
The role combines senior leadership with hands-on technical direction in architecture, engineering, and solution design.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and develop a global organization of approximately 30 employees, including people managers.
- Provide technical leadership across software engineering, architecture, application development, integration, and automation.
- Lead development across low-code, enterprise development platforms, and fully custom applications.
- Drive engineering quality and adoption of SDLC, architecture, security, and engineering standards.
- Drive modernization, simplification, and lifecycle management of the application landscape.
- Oversee end-to-end service delivery for selected third-party workplace solutions, including vendor, lifecycle, and service management.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and sustainable solutions.
Experience
- Strong hands-on software development and engineering background, followed by progression into senior technology leadership.
- Proven experience leading sizeable, multidisciplinary engineering teams, including people managers.
- Strong depth in software architecture, application development, integration, and modern engineering practices.
- Experience across both custom software development and low-code or application platforms.
- Ability to combine technical depth with senior organizational leadership.
