The Design Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating the complete design process for hospitality developments, ensuring that all architectural, interior, MEP, structural, and specialist designs are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with the project brief, brand standards, and applicable regulations. The role acts as the key liaison between consultants, operators, contractors, and project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the design process from concept through construction documentation and project completion.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design consultants, including Architecture, Interior Design, Structural, MEP, Landscape, Lighting, Kitchen, and Specialist Consultants.
- Ensure compliance with hotel operator brand standards, local authority requirements, and international building codes.
- Review design deliverables for quality, coordination, constructability, and value engineering opportunities.
- Monitor design schedules and ensure timely submission of design packages.
- Facilitate design coordination workshops and technical review meetings.
- Resolve design conflicts and technical issues throughout design and construction.
- Support procurement by reviewing material submissions, shop drawings, mock-ups, and technical specifications.
- Coordinate with the site supervision team to address RFIs, design changes, and construction-related issues.
- Manage consultant performance, design budgets, and contract deliverables.
- Ensure sustainability, operational efficiency, guest experience, and lifecycle considerations are integrated into the design.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture.
- Master's degree or relevant professional certification is an advantage.
Experience
- 15 years of experience in design management for hospitality projects.
- Proven experience delivering luxury hotels, resorts, mixed-use hospitality developments, or branded hotel projects.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary consultants through all project phases.
- GCC or international hospitality project experience is preferred.
