Overview
The Wall Street Journal is seeking a deputy bureau chief to help shape and shepherd our coverage of the Middle East from Dubai or Tel Aviv.
You’ll help reporters develop must-read stories about the most dynamic people and issues in the region.
You’ll work closely with the Wall Street Journal’s team of reporters throughout the Mideast, helping them conceptualize high-impact stories and elevate breaking news with smart, unique angles.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable handling breaking news, editing ambitious long-form features and coaching reporters to produce their best work.
You should also be comfortable jumping into the fray to write and report strong stories of your own.
You Have
- Impeccable judgment and the ability to exercise it under intense deadline pressure.
- Sharp writing and editing skills alongside a deep appreciation for the craft of reporting.
- A keen sense of the Journal’s audience – both present and future – and a demonstrated ability to help reporters craft appealing features.
- A track record of capably handling breaking news on deadline.
- A strong desire to work across coverage areas to produce top-notch journalism.
Requirements
- 4-7 years journalism experience, preferably running relevant coverage.
Experience

- A deep understanding of U.S. geopolitics and the priorities of the Defense and State departments.
- Experience in the Middle East and/or knowledge of a relevant language are advantages but not mandatory
- This position can based in Dubai or Tel Aviv.
