Overview
- The Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) Department at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar invites applications for adjunct faculty positions on a rolling basis.
- We seek dynamic, student-centered educators to teach undergraduate courses in support of the university’s general education curriculum and interdisciplinary learning environment.
- Adjunct faculty may be considered for courses in areas including, but not limited to:
- Writing and Rhetoric
- Humanities
- Social/Behavioral Sciences
- Mathematics
- Natural Sciences
- Interdisciplinary Studies
- Academic Skills and First-Year Programs
- Appointments are part-time and dependent on departmental needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in assigned discipline(s) in accordance with university standards and course learning outcomes.
- Prepare course syllabi, instructional materials, assignments, and assessments.
- Maintain regular communication with students and provide timely feedback on coursework.
- Foster an engaging, welcoming, and supportive learning environment for international students from all backgrounds.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress using university systems.
- Adhere to departmental and university policies and procedures.
- Participate in meetings or training sessions as requested by the department.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in the relevant discipline or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level or relevant professional experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
- Eligibility to work in Qatar or meet specific immigration/employment requirements under Qatari law.
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal degree (PhD, MFA, or equivalent) in the relevant field.
- Experience teaching in interdisciplinary or general education programs.
- Experience teaching in international or multicultural higher education environments.
- Evidence of innovative or student-centered teaching practices.
