Key responsibilities
- Perform database administration, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain database systems.
- Manage backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery processes; participate in failover and disaster recovery testing.
- Monitor database performance, capacity, availability, and overall health; optimize SQL queries and tune performance.
- Manage database security, users, roles, permissions, and access controls.
- Resolve database incidents and performance issues; support migrations, upgrades, patching, and maintenance.
- Ensure data integrity, reliability, and availability; maintain database documentation, procedures, and configurations.
- Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and application teams; support production, development, and testing database environments.
Required qualifications
- 3–5 years of hands-on database administration experience.
- Production experience with one or more of PostgreSQL, Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL.
- Experience with installation, configuration, administration, backup, recovery, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- Experience with SQL optimization, performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.
- Experience with database security, access management, migrations, upgrades, patching, maintenance, and production environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; good communication and documentation skills.
Must-have skills
- Database administration and one or more of PostgreSQL, Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL.
- Database backup, recovery, replication, high availability, disaster recovery, SQL optimization, performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Database security administration, access management, migration, upgrades, patching, and maintenance.
Good-to-have skills
- Oracle RAC, Oracle Data Guard, SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, SQL Server Failover Clustering, PostgreSQL Streaming Replication, Patroni, PgPool, or MySQL Replication.
- Oracle Enterprise Manager, Grafana, Zabbix, Nagios, Linux administration, Shell, PowerShell, or Python scripting.
- Azure, AWS, OCI, or GCP database services; DevOps, automation, infrastructure as code, ITIL, or relevant database certifications.
