Data Modelling & Engineering Lead

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Own canonical data models, schemas, and business glossaries to maintain semantic consistency across project streams.
• Set standards for pipeline frameworks, code quality, automated testing, environments, and CI/CD.
• Direct senior data engineers in project squads and align them on shared components and architecture patterns.
• Review vendor codebases and approaches; audit delivered data artifacts before production release.
• Assure engineering content in Steering Committee packs and verify vendor progress and delivery claims.
• Validate estimates and change requests, and investigate delays related to code quality or environment issues.
• Present technical decisions and their business value to senior stakeholders.

Required experience and capabilities

• 10+ years of hands-on data engineering and modelling experience, including 4+ years leading engineering standards or platform teams in consultancies or major banks.
• Retail Banking Group enterprise data modelling and engineering experience.
• Direct experience with high-throughput, real-time data backends for consumer mobile banking apps and digital journeys.
• Deep conceptual, logical, and physical modelling expertise across batch and real-time streaming, including ERD, Data Vault 2.0, dimensional/Kimball, and JSON/Avro.
• Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication, with the ability to produce executive-ready insights.
• Ability to present to technical and business executives, defend standards, and manage vendor friction constructively.

Advantageous technical experience

• Advanced fluency in SQL, Python, PySpark/Databricks, Snowflake/BigQuery, Kafka/Event Hubs, dbt, and AWS/Azure cloud data platforms is an advantage.
• UAE or GCC major-bank data engineering or modelling leadership experience is an advantage.
