Overview
About the Company
Our client is hiring Data Modelers to be based Abu Dhabi.
The role offers flexible working but the person should be currently based in the UAE.
The role is on a contract basis for 6 month and can be extended
About the Role
We are looking for a Data Modeller who brings intellectual rigour to the craft of understanding, defining and documenting data at the element level.
This is not a pipeline or integration role.
The primary focus is the data itself - its meaning, structure, provenance, relationships and quality; delivering the logical and conceptual models that underpin trusted data across our clients’ enterprises.
The successful candidate will sit at the intersection of data architecture, data engineering and business analysis, translating business concepts into precise data definitions and working with technical teams to ensure those definitions are respected in physical implementations.
• Data Modelling & Definition
- Design and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models across multiple subject areas
- Define, name and classify individual data elements with precision; capturing data type, format, permissible values, nullability and lineage
- Document clear, unambiguous business definitions for every entity, attribute and relationship in the model
- Identify master data entities and support the design of data ownership and stewardship frameworks
- Ensure data models reflect current business reality and evolve in step with organisational change
• Data Quality & Governance
- Specify data quality rules at element level: completeness, validity, consistency and uniqueness thresholds
- Profile existing data assets to identify anomalies, gaps and definitional inconsistencies
- Contribute to and maintain the enterprise data dictionary and business glossary
- Participate in data governance forums, providing model-level input on standards and naming conventions
• Stakeholder Engagement & Business Analysis
- Elicit data requirements through structured workshops, interviews and document analysis
- Translate business concepts and rules into formal data model artefacts - entities, attributes, domains and constraints
- Resolve definitional conflicts between business units, producing agreed canonical definitions
- Communicate complex data structures clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Collaboration with Technical Teams
- Work alongside data engineers to validate that physical implementations honour the logical model
- Review DDL, schema definitions and API contracts for alignment with agreed data element definitions
- Support architects in establishing modelling standards, patterns and tooling conventions
- Provide data element specifications to consuming teams (analytics, BI, AI/ML) to ensure correct interpretation
Qualifications
The role requires intermediate capability across three disciplines. ‘Intermediate’ is defined as independently productive with sound judgement, able to handle typical complexity without supervision.
• Data Engineering - Intermediate
- Data Business analysis - Intermediate
What We Expect
- Conceptual & logical modelling (ER, dimensional, data vault awareness). Understanding of normalisation, entity relationships and domain design. Ability to align models to architectural principles and enterprise standards.
- Sufficient technical depth to engage credibly with engineers, such as, SQL fluency, schema design, understanding of storage patterns (relational, columnar, NoSQL). Able to review physical schemas for model compliance. Not required to build pipelines.
- Requirements elicitation, stakeholder facilitation, business rules capture. Comfortable producing data requirement specifications, data dictionaries and business glossary entries.
Experience
bridging business and technical teams.
Essential
- 3-6 years’ experience in a data-focussed role with direct modelling responsibility
- Hands-on experience producing logical data models using industry-standard notation (e.g. UML, IDEF1X, Barker)
- Proficiency with at least one data modelling tool (e.g. erwin, Enterprise Architect, IBM InfoSphere, dbt docs, or equivalent)
- Strong SQL skills, able to query, profile and validate data at element level
- Demonstrable experience creating and maintaining a data dictionary or business glossary
- Proven ability to facilitate requirements sessions and resolve definitional disagreements across stakeholders
Desirable
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks (DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM)
- Experience with master data management (MDM) concepts and golden record design
- Exposure to metadata management platforms (Collibra, Alation, Informatica Axon)
