Data Management Team Lead
Role Overview
The Data Management team plays a critical role in Viridien's end-to-end client data delivery chain.
The team is responsible for ensuring that client data is ingested, processed, quality checked, transferred and delivered accurately, securely and on time, often under tight operational and contractual deadlines.
We are looking for a Data Management Team Leader to join our HPC team based full-time on-site at the UK HPC Hub.
The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day operation of the Data Management team, ensuring an uninterrupted and timely service for internal stakeholders and external client deliverables.
The role includes assisting with data input and output tasks, coordinating priorities and resources, overseeing internal staff, setting up and running FTM, STM and TDM jobs, outputting data to LTO, 3590, USB media and NAS boxes, maintaining IBM drives and robotic libraries, and ensuring robust quality control of final data outputs before delivery.
In addition to operational delivery, the Team Leader is responsible for developing and maintaining a high-performing team through effective leadership, coaching, performance management and capability development.
This includes conducting regular one-to-one meetings, performance reviews, managing Individual Development Plans (IDPs), identifying skills gaps, supporting succession planning and ensuring the team has the capabilities required to meet current and future business needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Drive individual and team performance through clear objectives, regular feedback, coaching, accountability and effective development planning.
- Build a high-performing and engaged team by promoting collaboration, knowledge sharing, succession planning and continuous learning.
- Lead the reliable and timely delivery of Data Management services, ensuring client and project commitments are met.
- Coordinate daily workloads, priorities and resources, progressing client data efficiently from receipt through processing, quality control and final delivery.
- Work collaboratively across Data Management, HPC and wider operational teams to achieve shared business objectives.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships, clearly communicating priorities, risks and operational requirements to support effective decisions.
- Oversee and support FTM, STM and TDM processing, together with data export and archival activities across LTO, 3590, USB and NAS platforms.
- Maintain and support IBM tape drives and robotic library infrastructure to ensure operational reliability and service continuity.
- Identify and address delivery risks, recurring issues and resource constraints, escalating concerns early and implementing appropriate improvements.
- Continuously improve processes, workflows and documentation to increase efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, minimise operational risk and ensure effective handovers.
- Forecast media requirements to support effective capacity and budget planning.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience.
- Good level of Linux administration skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, confident stakeholder management across technical and non‐technical teams.
- An enthusiastic attitude towards learning and flexibility to adapt to new challenges or changes in direction.
