Data Engineer

Role overview

What you'll do

• Design and maintain Fabric ETL/ELT pipelines using Pipelines, Notebooks, Lakehouses, Warehouses, and OneLake.
• Ingest and transform data from SQL Server, REST APIs, SaaS applications, and file exports using PySpark.
• Develop SQL transformations, stored procedures, and Kimball-style star-schema models.
• Build and support Power BI semantic models and dashboard datasets.
• Implement quality, validation, and reconciliation checks; monitor and troubleshoot production pipelines.
• Use Git, testing, and CI/CD for repeatable deployments; maintain documentation, lineage, and engineering standards.
• Translate stakeholder requirements into data solutions and support ISO 27001 and information security compliance.

Essential requirements

• 2–4 years of data engineering experience.
• Strong SQL, including complex transformations and performance tuning.
• Hands-on Microsoft Fabric, or Azure Synapse/Data Factory experience and willingness to move to Fabric.
• Python and PySpark for data ingestion and transformation; experience integrating APIs and external sources.
• Knowledge of data warehousing and Kimball dimensional modeling.
• Experience with Power BI semantic models, data quality, testing, reconciliation, and Git/source control.
• Confidence communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• CI/CD and automated testing for data pipelines; Microsoft Fabric certification such as DP-600 or DP-700.
• Lakehouse/medallion architecture, data governance, security, or lineage experience.
• High-volume transactional data experience, ideally in transport, mobility, or on-demand services.

Workplace

• Hybrid role based at Veezu's Cardiff headquarters, with three days per week in the office.
