The Staff Data Engineer – Agentic Applications is a senior individual contributor reporting to the Head of Data & Transformation.
The role focuses on Python-based web applications, agentic workflows, supporting data services, AI-assisted coding, and business system integrations.
The engineer works with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to take solutions from requirements through production and provide technical leadership.
Team Context
The Data & Analytics team builds trusted data foundations, scalable platforms, and data products to improve decision-making and operational insight.
The role turns data foundations into business applications and automated workflows while enabling colleagues outside engineering to participate in application development.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Design, develop, and operate production-ready Python web applications for business teams.
- Build applications and workflows connecting AI agents to approved tools, APIs, datasets, and business systems.
- Translate business needs into applications from prototype through supported production services.
- Build and maintain front ends alongside Python backend services where appropriate.
- Provide APIs, reusable templates, examples, and coaching for business-owned front ends.
- Establish ownership and controls for application changes, testing, releases, and ongoing support.
- Design secure APIs and services with authentication, authorization, input validation, and controlled secrets.
- Implement evaluation, monitoring, audit trails, constrained permissions, human approvals, and safe failure handling.
- Design, build, and enhance Python-based batch and streaming pipelines.
Requirements
- Experience designing, building, and operating Python-based web applications and supporting data services.
- Experience developing agentic workflows that integrate approved tools, APIs, datasets, and business systems.
- Ability to take solutions from initial requirements through supported production services.
- Experience designing secure backend services with authentication, authorization, input validation, and controlled handling of secrets.
- Experience implementing monitoring, evaluation, audit trails, safeguards, and failure handling for agentic workflows.
- Ability to provide technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring.
