About the Role
We are seeking experienced Data Catalogue Specialists with strong expertise in Microsoft Purview to support the implementation and management of enterprise-wide metadata management, data governance, data cataloguing, lineage, and business glossary capabilities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing and maintaining a centralized data catalogue, metadata repository, business glossary, data classification framework, and end-to-end lineage across enterprise data platforms.
This role requires close collaboration with business stakeholders, data governance teams, data architects, and engineering teams to ensure high-quality metadata management and governance practices.
Microsoft Purview Administration
- Configure, administer, and maintain Microsoft Purview environments.
- Establish collection hierarchies aligned with business domains and enterprise information models.
- Register and manage enterprise data sources including Databricks, IBM DB2 Warehouse, DataStage, and related platforms.
- Manage asset ownership, stewardship assignments, and governance records.
Metadata Management & Data Cataloguing
- Execute automated metadata scanning and harvesting using Microsoft Purview connectors.
- Maintain technical metadata including schemas, data types, refresh schedules, column statistics, and asset relationships.
- Configure and support Databricks Unity Catalog integration with Microsoft Purview.
- Ensure metadata accuracy, consistency, and completeness across enterprise assets.
Business Glossary & Data Governance
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise business glossaries.
- Define business terms, data definitions, ownership structures, and stewardship responsibilities.
- Link catalogued assets with approved business glossary terms.
- Support governance initiatives and enterprise data standards.
Data Classification & Information Protection
- Configure and manage data classification policies and sensitivity labels.
- Implement Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) standards.
- Collaborate with business teams to classify data assets based on sensitivity and compliance requirements.
- Maintain classification registers and audit records.
Data Lineage & Metadata Integration
- Design and validate end-to-end data lineage across enterprise platforms.
- Document lineage across data ingestion, staging, transformation, semantic, and reporting layers.
- Configure lineage integration between Databricks and Microsoft Purview.
- Support metadata integration through APIs and automation processes.
Governance, Compliance & Reporting
- Produce governance documentation, metadata templates, lineage diagrams, and classification registers.
- Support internal audits, governance reviews, and compliance assessments.
- Maintain version-controlled metadata and governance artefacts.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to continuously improve data governance maturity.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in Data Governance, Metadata Management, or Data Cataloguing.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview administration and implementation.
- Experience with enterprise metadata management and business glossary management.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) and data classification frameworks.
- Experience implementing and validating enterprise data lineage.
- Understanding of Databricks, Unity Catalog, IBM DB2 Warehouse, and ETL environments.
- Experience with REST APIs and metadata integration processes.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience working within enterprise data governance frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in government, public sector, banking, or large enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks, information management standards, and enterprise architecture practices.
- Microsoft Purview or Azure Data Governance certifications are highly desirable.
