Crane Superintendent

Overview

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily offshore crane operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable lifting activities.
• Monitor the condition and performance of crane systems, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components, under marine environmental conditions.
• Oversee routine and preventive maintenance, inspections, and certification of offshore lifting equipment.
• Ensure all crane systems comply with offshore industry standards and are maintained in optimal working condition.
• Enforce adherence to marine safety protocols, lifting procedures, and international regulations such as LOLER, API RP 2D, and IMCA guidelines.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of inspections, maintenance logs, and lifting certifications.
• Lead and coordinate crane operators, riggers, and maintenance personnel onboard the vessel or offshore facility.
• Allocate tasks effectively and ensure all crane activities are carried out safely and within schedule.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to crane equipment and lifting operations in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with team members to develop safe and practical solutions to operational challenges.
• Manage multiple crane-related tasks and support project timelines during offshore campaigns or marine construction activities.
• Liaise with marine, deck, and engineering teams to ensure alignment with overall project and vessel operations.
• Prepare clear and concise reports on crane usage, performance, breakdowns, and maintenance activities.
• Keep thorough documentation for audits, compliance reviews, and future operational planning.

Skills and Experience

• 5+ years of experience in offshore or marine crane operations, with some experience in a leadership role.
• Good knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic crane systems.
• Experience in crane inspections, maintenance, and compliance with offshore standards.
• Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and coordinate a team.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve crane-related issues quickly.
• Good communication skills for reporting and keeping accurate records.
• Familiar with using maintenance management systems for tracking crane activities.
• Able to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced offshore environment.
• Focus on safety and efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
• Valid Offshore Crane Operator Stage 3 certification.
• BOSIET/FOET with CA-EBS (Offshore Safety Training).
• Offshore medical fitness certificate.
• Additional safety certifications (e.g., H2S, Working at Heights) are a plus.
