Cost Analyst

Position summary

Accounting and cost analysis

• Support month-end close, production order review and correction, COGS and WIP entries, and production order variance analysis.
• Prepare weekly and monthly inventory reports and assist with inventory valuation, reserve analysis, and reconciliations.
• Calculate and maintain excess and obsolete inventory reserves under company policy and accounting requirements.
• Support quarterly and annual cost rolls, new part costing, standard cost updates, and validation of material, labor, overhead, freight, duty, and other cost components.
• Research cost variances and fluctuations and summarize findings and proposed corrective actions.

Reporting and business support

• Analyze product group profitability, manufacturing and non-manufacturing expenses, and plant operating performance.
• Prepare financial reports, dashboards, and KPI tracking for plant leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Assist with departmental rate calculations and cost allocation analysis.
• Maintain cost accounting records, supporting documentation, and system data integrity in ERP and reporting tools.
• Partner with Business Intelligence, Finance, and operational teams to improve reporting, automate recurring analyses, and enhance dashboards.
• Support forecasts, budgets, ad hoc financial analyses, and cost savings initiatives.

Controls and improvement

• Support internal and external audit requests with schedules, reconciliations, explanations, and supporting documentation.
• Comply with GAAP, company accounting policies, internal controls, and financial reporting deadlines.
• Identify opportunities to improve cost control, data accuracy, and reporting efficiency.

Knowledge and skills

• Working knowledge of cost accounting, inventory accounting, standard costing, variance analysis, and manufacturing finance is expected.
• Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, data validation, and recurring financial analysis templates, are expected.
• ERP experience is required; Epicor is preferred. Power BI or similar business intelligence tools are listed.
• Analytical ability, attention to detail, clear communication, cross-functional collaboration, prioritization, confidentiality, and deadline management are listed.

Required qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
• Three to five years of accounting, cost accounting, manufacturing finance, or related experience is required.
• ERP experience and Microsoft Office proficiency, including advanced Excel, are required.
• Power BI, Access, or similar reporting-tool experience is preferred.

Desired qualifications

• An MBA, CMA, CPA, or progress toward professional certification is desired.
• Manufacturing, medical device, life sciences, or regulated-industry experience is desired.
• Experience with cost rolls, inventory reserves, audit requests, and cross-functional process improvement is desired.
• Domestic and international travel may be required.

Physical requirements

• The role regularly requires sitting and talking or hearing, frequently requires handling or feeling and reaching, and occasionally requires standing, walking, and lifting or moving up to 20 pounds.
