Role overview
The Cook reports to the Culinary Services Manager and supports resident safety through high-quality food service.
Part-time position at Millwood Retirement Residence.
Starting wage is $22.24 per hour; this is an existing vacancy.
Responsibilities
- Prepare nutritious meals according to the menu plan and applicable requirements.
- Plate meals while respecting residents’ food preferences and making mealtimes a positive experience.
- Keep kitchen areas and equipment clean.
- Supervise Dietary Aides during basic preparation and meal service.
- Work within budget, limit waste, and follow residence policies and procedures.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain records when the Food Service Manager is absent, including menu changes, purchase orders, delivery receipts, and temperature checks.
- Assist with FIFO rotation of food and supplies and collaborate with other departments.
Qualifications
- Current food-handler training certificate or equivalent completed training; training can be provided.
- Culinary designation or diploma, or equivalent, is an asset; previous healthcare or hospitality employment is an asset.
- Familiarity with weights and measures, recipe conversion, portion control, Ontario food-premises rules, Canada’s Food Guide, and therapeutic diets.
- Familiarity with HACCP, WHMIS, occupational health and safety, and sanitation.
- Able to perform assigned duties and demonstrate organization, time management, teamwork, and empathy for seniors.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Clear vulnerable sector screening within six months, recent TB test within six months or chest X-ray within one year, and two supervisory references.

- Starting wage rate is $22.24 per hour.
