Controller (6-Month Contract)

Opportunity

Key duties

• Oversee full-cycle accounting and customer credit management while remaining involved in day-to-day financial work.
• Lead, manage, coach, and support a four-person accounting team.
• Manage cash flow, prepare monthly financial statements with commentary, and lead the annual budget process.
• Maintain internal controls and monitor finance and accounting functions to improve efficiency.
• Prepare the annual audit file and work with external auditors.
• Support the CEO and Board with financial analysis, reporting, project work, and Board committee participation.
• Liaise with banking partners, the insurer, CRA, auditors, legal counsel, and government representatives.
• Report on investment portfolio performance and conduct business and financial analysis, including cost behavior and drivers.

Required qualifications

• University degree and CPA designation or equivalent.
• At least five years of Controller-level experience.
• Advanced or expert experience in financial reporting, Board engagement, budgeting, and financial planning.
• Experience with complex ERP, EAP, and FMA software for financial reporting.
• Collaborative leadership style and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Ability to work from the Guelph office at least three days per week.

Preferred experience

• Agriculture industry experience or knowledge is a plus.
• Experience in a not-for-profit environment is a plus.
• Microsoft Dynamics AX experience is a bonus.

Compensation

• Estimated annual salary range is $90,000 to $120,000, with a retention bonus for the full term; final offer depends on skills, experience, and qualifications.

Work arrangement

• Hybrid arrangement with at least three days per week in the Guelph office.

Employment term

• Full-time, six-month fixed-term leave coverage contract, with potential for extension.
