Control Room Operator – Junior

Job Scope Summary

Job Responsibilities

• Follow established operating procedures and perform routine inspections and manipulative operations within defined boundaries.
• Coordinate daily operational activities with plant operators.
• Safely shut down and restart production when required, following plant operating procedures and parameters.
• Control operating parameters through the Distributed Control System manually or automatically.
• Record equipment changes and abnormal or unusual plant conditions.
• Complete daily logs and raise maintenance work requests as required.
• Maintain cleanliness around equipment, the crane, and hopper deck.
• Liaise with maintenance on planned and unplanned activities affecting crane availability.
• Report HSE breaches, defective equipment, and unsatisfactory material conditions to the Shift Team Leader.
• Participate in company health, safety, and environmental initiatives and follow relevant procedures, policies, and plans.

Education and Experience

• Diploma in a mechanical or electrical discipline.
• Minimum of three years' experience in Energy from Waste or power plant operations or maintenance.
• Experience in resource recovery material handling and waste processing is preferred.
• Boiler plant operations certification is preferred.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Familiarity with HSE standards, procedures, and requirements.
• Knowledge of steam boiler plant operations, plant chemistry, combustion dynamics, turbine-generators, emissions monitoring equipment, and balance of plant systems.
• Understanding of equipment interlocks, alarms, trips, and plant control loop responses.
• Completion of an operator training program or equivalent power plant work-related experience.
• Ability to react quickly and exercise good judgment during emergencies.
• English at intermediate level.
