Sitting in Cross-Cutting Policy & Strategy (CCPS), the Consumer Duty Policy team owns the FCA's policy approach to the Consumer Duty. We maintain and develop the Duty's rules and guidance, providing expert advice on complex and novel issues, and supporting colleagues across the FCA to apply the Duty consistently and effectively to deliver good outcomes for retail customers.

Role responsibilities:

Supporting colleagues across the FCA to apply the Consumer Duty in practice, to ensure it is effective in driving good outcomes for consumers. This includes answering queries and using your judgment to enable effective Supervision of the Duty and supporting project work to analyse firms’ behaviour and establish good practice under the Duty. It also includes providing advice to colleagues across the FCA on interpreting and applying the Consumer Duty in different contexts, ensuring it is applied consistently

Contributing to the development of the FCA approach to policymaking in retail markets and supporting Policy colleagues to deliver this approach.

Supporting the ongoing delivery of the Consumer Duty Rules Framework - an internal framework to help policy teams consider the Consumer Duty when developing rules and guidance and drive a more consistent approach to policymaking in areas where the Consumer Duty applies.

Providing policy input to our high-profile communications and external engagement strategy, including events and other engagements involving senior stakeholders.

Skills required:

Minimum:

Demonstrable experience drafting and briefing, able to product clear and concise written outputs

Prior experience in supporting the delivery of project work, showing the ability to prioritise work efficiently and strong organisational skills

Experience of working on policy development or delivery and providing policy advice.

Good verbal communication and presentation skills

The ability to work constructively, collaboratively and flexibly with others

Benefits:

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Colleagues spend a minimum of 50% of their working time in the office each month (60% for Directors and Executive Directors) across our London, Leeds and Edinburgh offices
  • Non-contributory pension (8–12% depending on age) and life assurance at eight times your salary
