Concrete Reinforcing Technician

Purpose

Primary duties

• Develop working knowledge of AutoCAD, RebarCAD, and reinforcing bar industry references such as CRSI and ACI.
• Review contract plans, addenda, and specifications and compare document dates with the proposal or estimate.
• Detail simple foundations, walls, footings, piers, slabs, stairs, retaining walls, and other products.
• Submit placing drawings for approval that meet applicable ACI 318, CRSI, or RSIC standards and branch, placer, and shop requirements.
• Process change orders, document contract time or material changes, and compare detailed weight against contract weight.
• Maintain fabrication deliveries and coordinate pre-ordering specialty items to support construction schedules.
• Communicate with customers, placers, and architects or engineers; submit requests for information as needed.
• Review shortage or error claims, ensure bar lists are coded correctly, and follow projects through estimate, detailing, fabrication, and installation.
• Attend weekly meetings on safety, workloads, availability, issues, and improvement ideas.

Minimum qualifications

• Vocational certificate in CAD design/drafting from an accredited school or college, or current enrollment in such a program.
• At least six months of experience with AutoCAD and Windows-based software.
• Ability to read architectural and engineering blueprints.
• Able to contribute to a project team, solve problems, stay organized and detail-oriented, prioritize work, and communicate effectively.

Preferred qualifications

• A two-year technical diploma is preferred.
• Construction or concrete-related construction knowledge and experience, or basic construction or civil technology knowledge, are helpful.
• Project management experience is preferred.
• Experience installing or placing reinforcing steel, or fabricating reinforcing steel, is preferred.

Pay

• Salary range is $24.00–$27.00 CAD per hour; pay is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
