This role involves assessing potential environmental and occupational health risks associated with briquette production and usage, and recommending evidence-based mitigation measures.

The specialist will review operations and member practices for compliance with relevant environmental and occupational health standards, develop guidelines and tools, and prepare clear reports and recommendations.

Day-to-day tasks include conducting desk-based risk assessments, analyzing data, supporting environmental health and safety (EHS) policies, and providing technical input for member training and capacity-building programs.

The role also involves collaborating with internal teams, member organizations, and partners, and communicating technical information in accessible language for diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Environmental Health and Environmental Compliance, with the ability to assess and manage environmental risks in production and community settings.
  • Practical experience or knowledge in Environment Health and Safety (EHS) and Occupational Health, including hazard identification, risk mitigation, and safe work practices.
  • Excellent Communication skills, with the ability to translate technical environmental and health information into clear guidance for non-technical audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple tasks, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with clean energy, biomass, or briquette production sectors in Kenya or East Africa is a plus.
