Role summary

The coordinator brings Hopewell’s mission, people, and impact to life through authentic, engaging, and respectful communications.

The role builds relationships across Hopewell homes, programs, and community activities; interviews people; captures photo and video; and shares stories across communications channels.

All communications must reflect person-centred practice, Social Role Valorization, dignity, choice, informed consent, and respectful representation.

Story discovery and content

  • Build relationships with people supported, families, employees, volunteers, partners, and leadership; spend time in programs and community activities to identify stories.
  • Interview people with sensitivity and support them to share their experiences in their own voice whenever possible.
  • Capture photography, video, interviews, and source material; develop stories, social content, short-form videos, website features, newsletters, and multimedia materials.
  • Confirm informed consent, follow privacy and approval requirements, and work with operational leaders to ensure content is accurate and respectful.

Digital channels and campaigns

  • Maintain content calendars and story leads, personalize and review technology-assisted drafts, and coordinate approved content across social media, websites, newsletters, and other digital channels.
  • Apply social media practices and foundational SEO; monitor engagement and maintain an organized library of approved stories and visual assets with consent information.
  • Create content for community visibility, fundraising, donor stewardship, recruitment, events, campaigns, and employee communications.
  • Apply brand, messaging, accessibility, and visual standards; create promotional materials such as graphics, posters, presentations, and event resources.
  • Review performance and audience feedback with leadership and the external communications partner and recommend improvements.

Role boundaries

  • Crisis communications are directed by the CEO and senior leadership; the coordinator may gather information or prepare materials but does not independently speak for Hopewell during a crisis.
  • Automated tools may assist with planning and production, but content involving people supported requires human review and confirmed consent before publication.
  • Specialized strategy, complex media relations, major brand development, and advanced design remain with leadership, the external communications partner, or other specialists.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, digital media, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of related work experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, interviewing, writing, editing, photography, short-form video, social media, organization, and follow-through skills.
  • Working knowledge of foundational SEO; advanced or technical SEO is an asset.
  • Sound judgment about privacy, informed consent, accuracy, and respectful representation; comfort using AI and automation tools responsibly with human review.
  • Knowledge of Social Role Valorization, person-centred practice, accessibility, or inclusive communications is an asset; willingness to learn and apply these principles is required.

Work setting

  • The role spends meaningful time in Hopewell homes, programs, and community activities and supports communications across multiple sites in Guelph-Wellington.

Compensation

  • The posting lists $35.08 per hour and an annual range of $72,965.98.

Benefits and schedule

  • Full-time work with a flexible schedule based on client and staff needs.
  • Benefits include group coverage, a contributory retirement savings plan, paid vacation and holidays, professional development, and a collaborative team environment.
