Role overview

Cloud cost analysis and optimization

• Analyze cloud consumption, spending patterns, usage trends, and cost drivers across services, accounts, subscriptions, projects, and business units.
• Build and maintain cloud cost dashboards, reports, forecasts, and financial models; track budgets, spending limits, actuals, and variances.
• Set up cost allocation, chargeback, and showback methodologies; establish cost KPIs, efficiency metrics, and unit-economics analyses.
• Identify idle, underutilized, oversized, or unnecessary resources and recommend rightsizing, scheduling, scaling, reserved capacity, and savings-plan strategies.
• Evaluate cloud pricing and financial impacts; support budgeting, planning, forecasts, and long-term cost projections.

Governance and business partnership

• Partner with Engineering and DevOps to integrate cost awareness into architecture and development practices; collaborate with IT and Cloud teams on standards and governance.
• Support FinOps practices across the cloud lifecycle and monitor spending against approved budgets, escalating significant deviations as appropriate.
• Support business cases and assess costs for cloud services, migrations, modernization, and digital transformation initiatives.
• Work with Procurement on contracts, pricing, discounts, and vendor commitments; reconcile invoices and investigate anomalies, unexpected charges, duplicates, and billing errors.
• Track savings, document cost policies and procedures, provide financial insights to leaders, and improve reporting accuracy, automation, and cost-management processes.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, IT, Computer Science, Business, or a related field.
• Previous experience in FinOps, Cloud Cost Management, Technology Finance, IT Financial Management, Cloud Operations, or a similar role.
• Strong understanding of cloud computing, financial management, billing structures, pricing models, usage metrics, and cost drivers.
• Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or an equivalent cloud environment and with analyzing cloud expenditure for savings opportunities.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, financial modeling, and data analysis.
• Familiarity with cloud billing consoles, cost explorers, budgets, alerts, reporting platforms, resource tags, account structures, cost centers, and allocation models.
• Understanding of chargeback, showback, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis; strong analytical, quantitative, and detail-oriented skills.
• Ability to translate technical usage into financial and business insights; strong financial modeling, forecasting, communication, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Able to work across Finance, IT, Engineering, Procurement, and business teams and manage multiple cost-analysis and optimization initiatives.

Preferred and advantageous experience

• Experience with cloud cost-management or FinOps tools is preferred.
• Dashboard experience with Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar platforms is advantageous.
• Familiarity with SQL, Python, APIs, or automation tools is beneficial.
• Understanding of cloud architecture, DevOps, infrastructure, and resource utilization is preferred.
• Relevant FinOps, cloud, finance, or technology certifications are advantageous.
