Job Summary
- Reporting into the Global Banking COO team, this role supports the Capital Markets business in the development and execution of business strategy, organisational realignment, accountability frameworks, and business-as-usual processes.
- The role also helps identify and capture growth opportunities aligned with the strategic priorities of Global Banking and, more broadly, Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB)
- This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring day-to-day business-as-usual (BAU) delivery for the Debt Capital Markets franchise, supporting disciplined execution, robust governance, and effective coordination across Front Office, COO functions, Risk, Compliance, Operations, Technology and Finance.
- Coordinate Capital Markets business management cadence (weekly/monthly), including performance reporting, pipeline/deal activity tracking, and senior management updates.
- Drive governance and controls for Capital Markets activity, including coordination of key forums/committees, control & risk reporting, audit actions tracking, and timely escalation of issues in line with the Operational Risk Framework.
- Partner with Capital Markets leadership and the Global Banking COO team to deliver strategic initiatives (e.g., operating model, technology change, , and process simplification), ensuring clear ownership, agreed timelines, and effective stakeholder management across regions.
Strategy
- Contribute to ensure effective delivery of Global Banking business activities globally, delivering an integrated execution plan across its businesses and alignment with functions.
- Responsible to help successfully executing and implementing Global Banking’s strategy and align the overall strategic direction with the Bank, CIB and key Business and Stakeholders.
- Collaborate and support Capital Markets Business Heads responsible for implementing Global and Regional strategies and ensuring the over CIB businesses are aligned with the needs and plans for Regional and Global Operations.
- To be able to support business head/frontline staff to enable best in class Capital Markets franchise within footprint and grow revenues.
- Provide management and represent Capital Markets interest across multi-functional project teams including relevant business and COO teams, Technology, Legal, Compliance, Risk, for various projects
Business
- Work with the Global Heads for Capital Markets as well as respective desk-heads and front office staff to drive the business and help deliver the business performance and cost globally.
- Serve as front-facing to all Global Banking business from a Global COO perspective and assist to drive the business forward by enabling them to achieve the objectives set up for the business.
- Work in partnership with our internal relationships with stakeholders to ensure all risks are properly identified and mitigated via proper controls. Collaborate with stakeholders who are accountable for regulatory engagement as well as Operations, and Technology to design and implement a scalable, automated, and commercially viable operating model for the business, capable of adaptation to satisfy changing business and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure the proper governance for the Business is in place to capture the nature of the Products and all relevant risks derived from them.
- To assist in driving business and operational efficiencies via technological innovations with the Global Banking COO team.
- To assist in implementation of various regulatory or structural change driven projects.
- To assist with MIS requests and work with Finance on reporting improvements.
- To support and manage the tools required by the business to perform their role.
Processes
- To aid business and functions in making processes simpler, faster and better.
- With the Global Banking COO, continue to review front office processes to ensure efficiencies and adherence to controls, policies and procedures.
- Support the development and utilisation of the bank’s platform under Client Engagement and Effectiveness for the business to enable operational efficiencies and streamlining deal workflows.
People & Talent
- Assist Capital Markets management, HR and COO functions in talent management, year-end P3 processes, learning and talent development initiatives.
- Support Capital Markets management and relevant HR partners on HR matters where required
Risk Management
- Ensure that are appropriate frameworks in place so that Global Banking business is carried out within the Group’s risk appetite and reputational and credit risks are appropriately managed in conjunction with direct report and other stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with the highest standards or regulatory conduct and compliance standards and practices as defined by internal and external requirements.
- Ensure any audit and compliance issues relating to the Global Banking west business are resolved satisfactorily and in a timely manner.
- Together with senior Business Managers in the team, represent Capital Markets in internal and external audits and other 1LOD or 2LOD assurance reviews and ensure readiness for all reviews across business locations. Ensure appropriate management actions are developed and implemented where any deficiencies or breaches are identified, action plans are undertaken by the responsible person(s) identified and tracked to completion, and issue closure packs are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
Technology Initiatives
- To support Capital Market’s strategic technology initiative towards building of end-to-end workflow to support business
- Engage with Business, Process owners and Risk Framework Owner on an on-going basis and be able to drive the technology teams on build and delivery
- Ability to think literally and look for opportunities to simplify process and enhance controls as part of design
- Be part of Tech refinement forums, involve in workshop, support with prioritization and active involvement in design and solutioning
Regulatory & Business Conduct
- Point of contact, together with the senior Business Managers in the team, for the development of processes, procedures and control for Capital Markets.
- Assist Capital Markets and risk control owners to manage the control environment within the business and ensuring compliance with the governance framework
- To facilitate the internal governance of our transactions through our secretariat lens for DCC and ESG, Underwriting (UW) reporting and other matrix reporting as required.
