Job Purpose

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving growth of Expat Banking proposition by generating market insights, developing strategic partnerships, strengthening internal and external stakeholder engagement and supporting acquisition through targeted relationship development.

The role acts as a key connector between frontline teams, corporate partners and internal functions, ensuring a consistent flow of high‑quality leads into the acquisition funnel while supporting a premium onboarding experience for priority clients.

The BDM also plays a critical role in representing the bank across external events, shaping product improvements through structured feedback, and enabling senior leadership with performance insight.

Market & Growth Strategy

  • Generate market insights to identify growth opportunities, emerging trends and client needs with the expat segment.
  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives that enhance the banks competitive position and strengthen the overall value proposition.
  • Provide actionable recommendations to senior leadership on market positioning and product strategy.

Partnership & Relationship Development

  • Build and manage strategic relationships with corporate partners, intermediaries and key internal stakeholders to support acquisition and referral growth.
  • Act as a relationship bridge between frontline teams, product specialists and operational teams to ensure alignment and seamless client journeys
  • Develop tailored engagement plans to increase high-quality referrals into the acquisition funnel.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Support frontline teams with insights, tools and frameworks that strengthen client conversations and elevate service quality.
  • Enhance internal collaboration across products, marketing, risk and operations to ensure delivery of a premium expat banking experience.
  • Coordinate activity across teams to improve onboarding, reduce friction and support priority client engagement.

Acquisition & Client Onboarding

  • Work closely with the Account Opening Team to ensure referred prospects receive a well-orchestrated onboarding experience.
  • Monitor referral flows, pipeline quality and conversion drivers recommending improvements where needed.

External Representation & Proposition Development

  • Represent the bank at industry events, seminars and client forums acting as a brand ambassador for the expat Banking proposition.
  • Capture structured feedback from partners, clients and market conversations to influence product enhancement and service improvement.
  • Collaborate with product teams to ensure client needs are reflected in ongoing proposition development.

Performance Insight & Reporting

  • Produce regular performance reports dashboards and insights for senior leaders highlighting acquisition trends, partnership performance and growth opportunities.
  • Track KPI’s and measure the effectiveness of strategic initiatives, recommending actions to drive continuous improvement.

Anti Money Laundering (Aml) And Sanctions Responsibilities

As a client-facing department, the Expats Banking department serves as the first line of defence to prevent NBKI from being used to facilitate money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions breaches (collectively known as “Financial Crime”).

The role has a responsibility to:

1.

To reinforce to the Department that, as owners of the relationship that generates Financial Crime risks, the Department also has responsibility for mitigating those risks

2.

To ensure that Departmental business is conducted in accordance with NBKI Financial Crime Policy and Procedures applicable to the Department and Bank as a whole

3.

To ensure that Financial Crime controls are operating effectively within the Department

4.

To understand the Financial Crime Risk within the Department and contribute to the annual Business AML Risk Assessment produced annually by the MLRO

5.

To bring to the immediate attention of the MLRO and/or the Managing Director any material Financial Crime risk of which they become aware within the Department.

Essential Experience

  • Business Development within Financial Services, ideally in international, expat of affluent banking segments.
  • Proven track record of generating growth through strategic relationship development, partnership or referral channels.
  • Experience working with front line teams, supporting acquisition pipelines and enhancing conversion outcomes.
  • Stakeholder management across complex matrixed environments including product, risk, marketing and operations.
  • Experience building and managing external partnerships, such as corporates, relocation companies or global mobility firms.
  • String market insight capability, ability to analyse market trends, competitor activity, client needs and turn insight into action.
  • Experience representing an organisation externally at events, conferences or partner engagements.
  • Performance reporting and insights generation including pipeline management, KPI tracking and presenting findings to senior leaders.
  • Client centric experience particularly supporting premium or high net worth onboarding journeys.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within an expat, international or offshore banking proposition.
  • Background working with globally mobile clients, expats or multinational corporate clients.
  • Proposition development or product improvement cycles.
  • Experience in corporate engagement programs.
  • Understanding or cross border regulations
  • Data driven strategy experience

Competencies

The BDM is expected to demonstrate strong commercial acumen the ability to generate actionable market insight and strategic mindset that supports sustainable growth.

Success in the role requires excellent relationship building and influencing skills, enabling effective collaboration with frontline teams, corporate partners and internal functions.

The individual must display strong communication and presentation capability with confidence representing the bank at external events and engaging senior stakeholders.

A high level of analytical rigour is essential, with the ability to interpret performance data, identify trends and translate findings into clear recommendations.

The role also demands adaptability, sound judgement and the ability to work effectively in a complex fast paced environment.
