Overall job purpose

The role supports transformation initiatives across Finance Operations and Actuarial functions.

The Business Data Analyst bridges business needs and data-driven solutions.

The analyst works with Product Owners, business subject matter experts, Data Owners, and Scrum teams.

The role includes conceptual, logical, and physical data mapping and serves as a point of contact for engineering and testing data queries.

Experience in insurance or investment management is preferred.

Primary responsibilities

  • Gather, analyze, and document business requirements related to data and reporting.
  • Translate business needs into functional specifications and data mapping documents.
  • Conduct structured interviews and mock requirement exercises.
  • Work with data engineers and subject matter experts to align solutions with business goals.
  • Support data models, dashboards, and reporting tools.
  • Facilitate workshops and walkthroughs to validate requirements and solutions.
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues and blockers with technical teams.
  • Maintain documentation using Microsoft Visio and Confluence.

Knowledge, skills, and experience

  • Six to ten years of experience as a Business or Data Analyst in financial services or insurance is specified.
  • Strong data analysis, data governance, and business process modelling knowledge is required.
  • Experience comparing and analyzing data sets, patterns, and schemas is required.
  • SQL, Excel, and Python proficiency is required.
  • Communication, stakeholder management, independent work, and priority management skills are required.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA and Scrum is required.
  • A scientific mindset, structured problem-solving approach, attention to detail, and data accuracy are required.

Additional skills

  • Basic knowledge of PySpark, Python, and Azure is listed as an additional skill.
  • Power BI or another data visualization tool is additional.
  • Azure technologies such as Logic Apps and Data Factory are a plus.

Stakeholders

Internal stakeholders include UK Finance Accounting, UK Finance Actuarial, and UK Corporate Functions Technology.

External stakeholders include software suppliers and external consultants.
