Role overview

Full-time Building Envelope Engineer / Façade Design Specialist role for commercial, residential, industrial, and mixed-use developments.

The stated level is Mid-Level to Senior; the role combines façade engineering, building physics, materials, structural performance, waterproofing, and construction coordination.

Design and coordination

  • Develop and review building envelope, façade, curtain wall, cladding, glazing, and external wall designs; convert architectural concepts into feasible engineering solutions.
  • Assess performance, constructability, durability, compliance, loads, thermal movement, deflection, and supporting façade components.
  • Coordinate designs with architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, building services, contractors, fabricators, and specialist consultants.
  • Evaluate materials and prepare details, technical drawings, specifications, material schedules, calculations, reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Review shop drawings, fabrication drawings, installation details, technical submissions, design changes, substitutions, and alternative materials.
  • Assess air and water penetration, insulation, condensation, thermal bridging, solar heat gain, energy efficiency, acoustic performance, and fire safety.
  • Coordinate waterproofing details at joints, interfaces, parapets, balconies, roofs, windows, and façade penetrations.
  • Select façade systems considering performance, lifecycle cost, appearance, maintenance, and budget; identify risks and interface or installation conflicts.
  • Support tender documentation, scopes, specifications, cost assessments, and evaluation of supplier proposals.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, workshops, value engineering, and continuous design and quality improvements.

Testing, site, and quality

  • Support façade mock-ups, laboratory testing, and site performance testing; review results for air leakage, water penetration, structural performance, and thermal performance.
  • Investigate defects, water ingress, sealant failures, cracking, corrosion, and material deterioration; recommend repairs and corrective actions.
  • Inspect site installation quality, workmanship, material compliance, and conformity with approved drawings; coordinate technical clarifications and monitor installation progress.
  • Maintain design revision, calculation, technical query, inspection, and approval records.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Building, or Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant professional experience in façade engineering, building envelope design, curtain walls, cladding, or external wall construction.
  • Knowledge of façade assemblies and materials; structural behavior, wind loading, anchorage, and movement; waterproofing, airtightness, and moisture management.
  • Familiarity with thermal performance, insulation, condensation control, energy-efficient design, glazing, curtain walls, aluminum framing, cladding, and associated interfaces.
  • Ability to interpret construction documents and prepare or review façade shop drawings, technical submissions, calculations, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with relevant building codes, façade standards, fire safety, local regulations, and façade testing methods.
  • Experience coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors, fabricators, and specialist consultants; familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Revit/BIM, structural analysis tools, thermal simulation, sustainable certification frameworks, and professional registration or façade certifications are advantageous.

Professional capabilities

  • Analytical thinking, engineering judgment, problem solving, attention to detail, and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple design packages, deadlines, and changing technical requirements; participate in site inspections, technical meetings, and façade testing.

What the employer offers

  • The employer describes competitive salary and comprehensive benefits, varied project exposure, professional development, collaboration, technical resources, and career advancement opportunities.
