The Terminal Automation System Specialist supports the design, implementation, operation, maintenance, and optimization of terminal automation systems.
The role works with engineering, operations, IT, control systems, maintenance, and external vendors to support reliable, safe, secure, and efficient terminal operations.
Automation responsibilities
- Design, configure, maintain, and optimize terminal automation and control technologies.
- Support automation for terminal operations, material handling, loading, unloading, storage, and process control.
- Monitor system performance, availability, alarms, events, and operational status.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, communications, PLC, SCADA, HMI, and control system issues.
- Perform diagnostics, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive maintenance.
Systems and integration
- Configure and maintain PLCs, RTUs, SCADA systems, HMIs, industrial networks, and automation interfaces.
- Support integration with ERP, MES, TOS, inventory, logistics, and other enterprise systems.
- Maintain configurations, control logic, databases, interfaces, and technical documentation.
- Support upgrades, migrations, patches, enhancements, and technology modernization projects.
Operations and support
- Coordinate vendors, contractors, engineers, and technical service providers during troubleshooting and implementation.
- Conduct testing, commissioning, validation, and acceptance activities.
- Monitor cybersecurity, user access, availability, backups, and recovery procedures for automation environments.
- Provide technical guidance to operations, maintenance, and engineering teams and support incident response and continuity activities.
Required and preferred qualifications
- Proven experience in terminal automation, industrial automation, control systems, SCADA, PLC, or a related technical role.
- Strong knowledge of automation systems, industrial control systems, instrumentation, process control, industrial networking, system integration, databases, and automation architecture.
- Experience with PLC, SCADA, HMI, RTU, DCS, or industrial automation platforms and protocols such as Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP, or Profibus.
- Experience in terminal operations, logistics, tank farms, ports, oil and gas, manufacturing, or process industries is advantageous.
- Automation cybersecurity knowledge, commissioning experience, and relevant certifications are preferred or advantageous.
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in automation, electrical, instrumentation, control systems, industrial IT, or a related field is preferred.
