Automation Engineer

Role overview

Project delivery and safety

• Lead and support automation and electrical scopes from design and technical assessment through installation, commissioning, and start-up.
• Support control-system upgrades, production lines, utilities, quality systems, and site improvement projects.
• Ensure project activities are safely designed, planned, and executed, including automation-related safety requirements.

Standards, infrastructure, and security

• Maintain site Automation Standards and govern architecture, equipment selection, PLC/HMI systems, protocols, network topology, and equipment integration.
• Support the OT cybersecurity program, including security improvements, patching, network integrity, and cyber asset management.
• Keep cyber asset registers current with IP and network information and newly added or decommissioned assets.
• Improve reliability and lifecycle management of legacy control systems, OT networks, server-room infrastructure, and PLC systems.

Plant and team support

• Support reliability, productivity, waste performance, and operational efficiency through automation troubleshooting and improvement work.
• Provide automation support for manufacturing and mix plants, production lines, utilities, refrigeration controls, fire systems, CCTV, and access control.
• Deliver machine-safety improvements, control-system safety upgrades, and automation for quality-critical equipment.
• Work with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, SHE, Quality, project, and start-up teams.
• Coordinate contractors, system integrators, and specialists while maintaining standards and aligning resource needs and costs.

Qualifications and experience

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or Instrumentation Engineering.
• At least five years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on PLC and SCADA programming and VLAN and switch-interface experience, including configuring network switch ports.
• Experience with field instruments, valves, packing-machine interfaces, and factory-network integration.
• Knowledge of protocols such as Ethernet, Modbus, and Profibus.
