Analytics Group

Morningstar's Analytics group develops methodologies, analytics, and insights across securities and portfolios, including equities, fixed income, managed investments, and alternative assets.

The group applies AI to make investment intelligence more accessible and useful in research and portfolio workflows.

Role Overview

Lead Morningstar's Investment & Time Series team, which owns calculations supporting fund flows, fees, asset allocation, performance, and other data.

Serve as the team's technical methodology anchor and coordinate with Product, Analytics, Data, and other stakeholders.

The position is based in Mumbai; Morningstar describes its work model as hybrid, usually four days in-office each week.

Responsibilities

  • Own and triage client-driven methodology checks, regulatory updates, and one-off investigations, ensuring reliable resolution and communication.
  • Deliver multiple concurrent projects on time and lead selected larger research initiatives.
  • Review methodology logic, make technical calls, and catch errors before production.
  • Coordinate stakeholder requests, prepare clear specifications, support intake-to-production, and keep methodologies relevant and documented.
  • Use AI in specification, documentation, methodology validation, and QA.
  • Mentor team members, developing judgment, technical depth, project autonomy, and quality ownership.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on expertise in quantitative and financial domains such as risk and return analysis, security- and portfolio-level analytics, time series methods, and asset allocation.
  • High proficiency with AWS, datalake, and Python notebooks, including independent coding across large, varied datasets.
  • Track record using AI to improve documentation or quality checks in a technical or analytical role.
  • Ability to prioritize high volumes of concurrent, time-sensitive requests while maintaining quality.
  • Experience developing team members at different career stages and influencing non-technical stakeholders through clear methodology explanations.
  • At least 7 years of experience in quantitative research, financial data, or a related analytical field.
  • CFA designation is considered a strong asset.

Workplace

  • Position is based in Morningstar's Mumbai office.
  • Hybrid work model; most locations have four in-office days each week.
