Assistant Professor- Nuclear Energy

Job Purpose

Strategic Responsibilities

• Establish and sustain an independent and internationally competitive research program in renewable and sustainable energy and/or energy conversion.
• Contribute to the department’s strategic research themes and Khalifa University’s research priorities aligned with UAE sustainability and net-zero initiatives.
• Build collaborative research partnerships with industry, government, and academic institutions.
• Pursue external and internal research funding opportunities.
• Support innovation activities leading to patents, technology transfer, and high-impact publications.

Teaching

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Mechanical Engineering and related subject areas as assigned by the Department Chair.
• Develop and deliver new courses in emerging areas related to renewable energy, sustainable energy systems, and energy conversion.
• Prepare and update course materials including syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, laboratory exercises, and assessment tools.
• Ensure effective instructional delivery using modern teaching methodologies and instructional technologies.
• Provide students with clear course expectations, evaluation criteria, and timely academic feedback.
• Supervise undergraduate and graduate student projects, theses, dissertations, internships, and research activities.
• Participate in curriculum development, accreditation processes, and continuous academic improvement initiatives.
• Engage in student mentoring and academic advising activities.

Research, Scholarly & Creative Activities

• Conduct high-quality research leading to publications in internationally recognized journals and conferences.
• Develop research activities in areas including renewable energy systems, energy conversion technologies, sustainable power generation, and energy storage.
• Supervise graduate students and research assistants.
• Prepare and submit competitive research grant proposals.
• Participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative research initiatives.
• Present research findings at professional meetings, seminars, and international conferences.
• Contribute to innovation and commercialization activities including patents and applied research outputs.

Service

• Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and service activities.
• Contribute to outreach, professional engagement, and community service initiatives.
• Support accreditation, quality assurance, and institutional development activities.
• Participate in professional societies and academic networks at regional and international levels.
• Contribute to peer review activities for journals, conferences, and funding agencies.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited and reputable university.
• Strong record of high-impact publications in internationally recognized journals.
• Demonstrated potential (Assistant Professor level) or proven record (Associate Professor level) of securing competitive research funding.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentorship at undergraduate and graduate levels.

• Renewable energy systems (solar, wind, and hybrid systems).
• Advanced energy conversion technologies (fuel cells, batteries, thermal management).
• Sustainable power generation and energy storage.
• Dynamics, control, and optimization applied to energy systems.

• Dynamics of energy conversion devices.
• AI-enabled control for sustainable infrastructure.
