Role mission

Reports to the Asset Manager and manages the condition, reliability, availability, and lifecycle optimization of mechanical assets at wastewater treatment plants and O&M facilities.

The role covers asset reliability, condition assessment, maintenance optimization, failure analysis, lifecycle planning, renewal, and performance improvement.

Asset lifecycle and reliability

  • Develop asset management plans and manage assets from acquisition and commissioning through operation, maintenance, refurbishment, replacement, and disposal.
  • Maintain asset registers and assess condition, health, criticality, remaining useful life, and replacement requirements; conduct FMECA and RCM studies.
  • Monitor pumps, blowers, compressors, gearboxes, mixers, agitators, centrifuges, screens, conveyors, valves, actuators, lifting equipment, and other treatment-plant assets.
  • Develop maintenance strategies and analyze failures, downtime, vibration, lubrication, alignment, balancing, and maintenance history.
  • Support condition monitoring, including vibration and oil analysis, lubrication monitoring, alignment, and balancing.

Risk, projects, and reporting

  • Investigate major failures, monitor corrective actions, and track availability, reliability, failure frequency, downtime, MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance cost.
  • Recommend refurbishment or renewal for deteriorated, obsolete, inefficient, underperforming, or high-risk assets; assess spares, OEM support, maintainability, and lifecycle risks.
  • Review specifications, drawings, datasheets, submissions, and vendor documents; provide procurement, refurbishment, replacement, upgrade, commissioning, and spare-parts input.
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, OEMs, suppliers, contractors, and service providers.
  • Maintain asset records in CMMS, ERP, or asset management systems; support lifecycle-cost and Total Cost of Ownership assessments, forecasts, reports, and reliability improvement.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Typically 5–8 years of relevant experience in mechanical asset management, maintenance, reliability, or engineering.
  • Experience in wastewater treatment, water utilities, process plants, industrial facilities, or O&M is preferred.
  • Requires strong knowledge of pumps, blowers, rotating equipment, mechanical treatment equipment, valves, maintenance strategies, condition monitoring, reliability improvement, and asset systems.
  • Requires strong analytical, technical reporting, and problem-solving skills, and fluent English.

Key competencies

  • Asset lifecycle management, condition and criticality assessment, FMECA, and RCM studies.
  • Reliability engineering, preventive and predictive maintenance, root cause analysis, asset data management, and technical reporting.
  • Lifecycle cost, Total Cost of Ownership, asset renewal planning, risk management, stakeholder coordination, and continuous improvement.
