About the Job
We are seeking a creative and user-centered Art Experience Designer to shape immersive, engaging, and memorable experiences across contemporary art projects, exhibitions, and public programs.
The successful candidate will lead the design and development of audience journeys, interpretive touchpoints, spatial experiences, and interactive elements that bring artistic ideas to life in compelling and accessible ways.
This is a hands-on role working closely with artists, curators, designers, producers, and communications teams to create thoughtful and visually compelling art experiences.
Responsibilities
Lead research and concept development for art experiences across exhibitions, programs, and audience-facing projects.
Identify, commission, and cultivate relationships with artists, designers, technologists, and creative collaborators.
Develop interpretive content, labels, wall text, visitor journeys, and supporting materials that communicate ideas clearly.
Create experience plans, production briefs, and coordinate fabrication, installation, and deinstallation with technical teams and vendors.
Manage project budgets, schedules, and supplier / contractor relationships.
Organize accompanying public programs such as talks, panel discussions, workshops, artist residencies, and educational materials.
Liaise with artistic and institutional partners to ensure accurate, ethical, and high-quality presentation of creative work.
Oversee documentation, photography, and archival records for each project or exhibition.
Support fundraising and grant applications by preparing research summaries and proposals.
Monitor audience feedback and project impact; refine interpretive strategies to increase accessibility and engagement.
Qualifications
Minimum BA/MA in Art & Design, Experience Design, Curatorial Studies, Art History, Fine Arts, or a related field; PhD or equivalent research experience preferred.
At least 3-5 years of curatorial, design, or research experience in a gallery, museum, cultural institution, or equivalent creative setting.
Demonstrable interest in and familiarity with contemporary art and audience experience design - deep technical expertise is not required, but proven ability to learn and collaborate with artists and institutions is essential.
Strong research, writing, and editorial skills - able to produce clear, engaging interpretive texts and funding materials.
Project management experience: budgets, timelines, supplier coordination, and logistics.
Excellent interpersonal skills and experience building cross-disciplinary collaborations between artists, designers, and institutions.
Experience

Commitment to accessible presentation and ethical engagement with artistic content.
Portfolio or track record of designed art experiences, exhibitions, or projects (links or PDF).
Fluency in English; additional languages an asset.
