A Patient Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for patients, ensuring a positive healthcare experience by coordinating appointments, managing patient communications, maintaining records, and supporting clinical and administrative processes.
Key Responsibilities
Schedule, confirm, and coordinate patient appointments.
Greet and assist patients during check-in and check-out procedures.
Answer phone calls, emails, and patient inquiries professionally and promptly.
Verify insurance information and obtain necessary authorizations.
Maintain accurate patient records and update demographic information.
Coordinate referrals, diagnostic tests, and follow-up appointments.
Educate patients about treatment plans, procedures, and office policies.
Process payments, billing inquiries, and financial documentation as required.
Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff.
Ensure compliance with privacy regulations and confidentiality standards.
Monitor appointment schedules and help reduce cancellations and no-shows.
Resolve patient concerns and escalate issues when appropriate.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree preferred.
Previous experience in healthcare administration, customer service, or medical office operations.
Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare procedures.
