Application Software Engineer

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Develop highly reliable software used across SpaceX.
• Create applications that improve company operations.
• Build prototypes to validate design concepts and quantify technical constraints.
• Own software engineering and product development across the development lifecycle.
• Investigate user problems and develop efficient solutions.
• Collaborate on architecture, design, and code reviews.

Basic qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a scientific discipline, or at least two years of professional software-building experience in lieu of a degree.
• At least one year of full-stack development experience.

Preferred skills and experience

• Programming experience in Python, C#/.NET, Go, Scala, Java, or a similar object-oriented language.
• Experience with single-page web applications, version control, CI/CD, system design, testing, deployment, monitoring, and performance profiling.
• Experience with build systems and package managers; UNIX-like systems and infrastructure tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.
• Experience with stream processing, Docker and Kubernetes, Angular or React, and PostgreSQL or SQL Server.

Schedule

• Extended hours or weekends may be required depending on launch cadence.

Workplace

• The role is onsite; remote and hybrid work will not be considered.

Compensation and benefits

• Level 1 base salary range: $125,000–$165,000; Level 2 base salary range: $145,000–$200,000.
• Level and base salary depend on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
• Additional compensation may include stock or long-term cash awards and discretionary bonuses; benefits include health coverage, retirement plan, leave, vacation, holidays, and other perks.
