The Business Intelligence Analyst II supports informed decision-making through data analysis, preparation, visualization, and reporting.
The role is based in the employer’s Home Office in Calgary, Alberta.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and prepare data for reporting by understanding business needs, querying databases, and transforming data into usable formats.
- Monitor semantic model refreshes; troubleshoot issues; validate data against sources; escalate as needed; and track resolutions.
- Develop Power BI visualizations, dashboards, and reports with stakeholders.
- Design and test business-results reports for accuracy, completeness, and usability.
- Identify cost savings, revenue opportunities, and process optimization opportunities through data analysis.
- Develop and monitor data-quality metrics, standards, assessments, and improvement initiatives.
- Guide citizen developers in using BI tools, understanding data structures, creating simple queries, and developing basic visualizations.
- Document report requirements, data sources, methods, and outcomes; maintain change records; and organize a central repository for completed reports.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support the team and organizational goals.
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, or a related field, or comparable work experience.
- 2–4 years of experience in SQL and Power BI.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, Power BI, including DAX and data modelling, Microsoft Fabric, and GitHub.
- Familiarity with data warehouse and lakehouse concepts, medallion architecture, and deployment pipelines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, documentation, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
