Overview
- Melting and Furnace Operation:
- Operating, monitoring, and maintaining melting and holding furnaces to ensure aluminum reaches the correct temperature
- Metal Treatment:
- Fluxing and skimming molten aluminum to remove impurities (dross) before casting
- Casting Process:
- Pouring molten aluminum into molds (permanent, sand, or die) using hand ladles or specialized equipment
- Machine Operation:
- Setting up and adjusting die casting machines to produce parts
- Finishing and Inspection:
- Removing cast parts from molds, trimming excess material (gate removal), grinding rough edges, and inspecting parts for defects such as porosity or cracks
