Full Job Posting
Ready to build secure cloud platforms for HSBC’s AI-powered Productivity Suite?
Why join us?
HSBC Productivity Suite is our AI-powered workspace used by 250,000 colleagues across the bank. We are building the cloud platforms, engineering controls and operational capabilities that allow teams to use trusted enterprise knowledge, services and workflows securely at scale.
You will join a global engineering team solving complex problems with meaningful reach, helping shape how cloud, platform engineering and artificial intelligence are designed, governed and operated across HSBC.
The opportunity
Our team consists of around 50 engineers across the UK, India, Poland and China. We are growing our engineering capability in India and are looking for an experienced Cloud and DevOps engineer to act as a senior technical contributor within one or more engineering pods.
As an Associate Director, Cloud & DevOps Engineering, you will lead the delivery and evolution of secure, scalable and highly available cloud platforms. You will work closely with application engineers, architecture, cyber security, risk, compliance and technology partners to turn complex requirements into resilient, operable production capabilities.
This is not a formal people-management role. It offers progression through technical depth, ownership and influence. You will remain hands-on while providing practical technical direction, coaching and delivery oversight across a globally distributed team.
What you'll do
Lead cloud, DevOps and platform-engineering initiatives across Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Kubernetes, delivering secure, scalable and highly available capabilities for HSBC Productivity Suite.
Act as a senior Cloud and DevOps engineer within one or more engineering pods, setting technical direction, clarifying ambiguity and supporting engineers through practical coaching, design reviews and delivery oversight.
Build, configure and operate AWS environments and reusable platform capabilities using Infrastructure as Code, primarily Terraform, to enable reliable application deployment and reduce manual effort.
Evolve the Kubernetes platform to meet growing demand, improving resilience, performance, developer experience and operational efficiency through well-engineered, reusable patterns.
Establish effective cloud cost management through resource tagging, allocation, rightsizing, capacity planning, scheduling and usage monitoring, creating clear visibility and accountability for platform and application teams.
Enable the responsible adoption of open-source technologies and LLM solutions, assessing performance, cost, scalability, security, licensing, data privacy, resilience and regulatory requirements.
Apply disciplined release and production-readiness practices, including automation, validation, deployment governance, rollback controls, monitoring, alerting, logging, capacity management and incident preparedness.
Work across Cloud Services, Application DevOps, Architecture, Security, Risk, Compliance and global or local IT teams to ensure engineering standards, remediation actions and delivery commitments are met.
What you will need to succeed in the role
Strong hands-on experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering or DevOps, with a record of designing, building, testing, deploying, monitoring and operating significant production platforms in a large, complex environment.
Advanced practical knowledge of Kubernetes and AWS cloud services, including the ability to design for availability, resilience, security, scalability and effective day-two operations.
Deep experience with Infrastructure as Code and modern delivery practices, including Terraform, continuous integration and delivery, automated testing and controlled production releases.
Practical expertise across several relevant technologies, such as Docker, Helm, service mesh technologies, Python, monitoring, logging, alerting and cloud-native deployment tooling.
Experience managing cloud migration and operational-readiness challenges, including governance, security, capacity, resilience, compliance and production support.
A strong understanding of cloud cost optimisation, resource governance and financial accountability, with the ability to translate usage data into practical improvements.
Sound judgement on security standards, architecture governance, compliance controls, remediation management and the responsible use of open-source and artificial intelligence technologies.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions, explain complex information clearly and deliver complex work using Agile, Scrum and DevOps methods.
Desirable experience
Experience evaluating, integrating or operating multi-vendor large language model workloads in cloud and Kubernetes environments.
Experience in a highly regulated industry, such as financial services.
Experience using delivery and collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
