About the role
We're looking for a detail-oriented **Accounting & Data Analyst** to own our day-to-day bookkeeping and turn our business data into clear, useful insights.
This is a hands-on role: keeping our financial records accurate and up to date, analyzing data to help us make better decisions, and automating the repetitive parts of both so our reporting runs faster and with fewer errors.
You'll work closely with [the owner / leadership / the operations team] and have visibility across the whole business.
This role suits someone who genuinely likes working with numbers — reconciling them, cleaning them, and explaining what they mean to people who aren't analysts.
What you'll do
- Accounting & bookkeeping
- Record and categorize daily transactions, keeping the books accurate and current
- Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing and following up on payments
- Maintain the chart of accounts and keep records audit-ready
- Prepare monthly financial summaries (P&L, cash flow, balance sheet basics)
- Coordinate with our external accountant/CPA at tax time and provide clean records
- Track expenses, flag anomalies, and help with budgeting
- Data analysis
- Pull, clean, and organize data from across the business (sales, finance, operations, marketing)
- Build and maintain dashboards and reports that track key metrics
- Answer business questions with data — e.g. what's driving cost, revenue, or churn
- Identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities, and present them clearly
- Support decision-making with well-reasoned analysis, not just charts
- Process automation
- Automate repetitive finance and reporting tasks — recurring reports, data pulls, reconciliation prep, invoice reminders
- Build and maintain spreadsheet automations and templates that reduce manual data entry
- Connect the tools we already use so data flows between them with less hand-holding (e.g. via built-in integrations or no-code tools like Zapier/Make)
- Document the workflows you automate, and monitor them so failures get caught early
- Spot manual processes that are eating time and propose sensible ways to streamline them
- What we're looking for
Required
- Proven bookkeeping/accounting experience (small business or similar), or a degree in Accounting, Finance, or Computer Science
- Strong technical skills in IT and Software Engineering
- Strong working knowledge of accounting software
- Advanced spreadsheet skills (Excel/Google Sheets — pivot tables, lookups, clean modelling)
- Comfort working with data: cleaning messy datasets, choosing sensible comparisons, explaining findings
- High attention to detail and a habit of double-checking your own work
- Ability to communicate financial and data insights to non-technical people
- Nice to have
- A relevant degree or credential: Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a Computer Science
- SQL or a data tool (Python, Power BI, Tableau, Looker, etc.)
- Experience automating workflows with no-code tools (Zapier, Make) or light scripting
- Experience reporting in a small-business or startup environment
