Accountant - UK Business Experience Required

About This Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience working with UK-based businesses and a solid understanding of UK accounting standards, VAT, taxation, and financial compliance requirements.

This role is suited to someone who is proactive, commercially aware, and confident managing day-to-day accounting operations while supporting the wider business with accurate financial reporting and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping activities
• Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and reports
• Handle UK VAT returns and ensure compliance with HMRC regulations
• Support corporation tax preparation and liaise with external accountants where required
• Reconcile bank accounts, supplier statements, and company ledgers
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports
• Monitor cash flow and assist with budgeting and forecasting
• Ensure payroll information is accurate and processed correctly
• Maintain compliance with UK accounting standards and financial regulations
• Support audits and provide financial documentation when required
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls

Requirements

• Previous experience working with UK companies or UK accounting environments
• Strong understanding of:
• UK VAT
• Corporation Tax
• HMRC requirements
• Financial reporting and compliance
• Experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar platforms
• Excellent knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
• Good communication and reporting skills
• Advanced Excel skills preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• ACCA, ACA, CIMA, AAT or equivalent qualification preferred
• Experience in multi-company or international business environments is advantageous
