TITLE: SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER QUALIFICATIONS
- Eligible for Missouri certification and licensure-Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
- Demonstrated signing skills sufficient to meet student needs.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and/or Executive Director of Special Services
JOB GOAL: The interpreter facilitates communication between students with hearing impairments and hearing people in the school community (teachers, students, administrators, other personnel).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Through sign language, facilitate communication between students with hearing impairments and hearing people in the school community.
- Assist special educators and regular education staff to facilitate student success in regular classrooms.
- Assists Special Education Teachers to implement special education and related services.
- Interprets for district parents or patrons with hearing impairments for school related business during school hours.
- Interpret accurately without personal bias.
- Perform other duties as directed by the principal or supervising teacher which are related to facilitating success for students with disabilities.
